opportunities and challenges

good afternoon ,ladies and gentlemen!

isquo;m very honored to stand here and give you a short speech! my topic is opportunities and challenges.

first, i would like to know, what does your destiny offer you? happiness, wisdom, a strong body or something else. if i had asked this question to president nixon, he would probably had said, our destiny offers not the cup of despair, but the chalice of opportunity.

needless to say, one of the biggest opportunities given to china is the 20xx olympic games. till now, we have used two sevenths of the preparation time. how much changes have you seen? new roads, new subway lines, public-exercising equipments with beautiful colors, large blocks of grass fields, and also lots of modern gyms which are under construction.

other than those, there are even more good effects brought to us by the olympic games that cannot be seen directly. for example, more and more people will get to know china. isquo;m sure the mysterious chinese culture will attract them strongly. and the games will also do good to the economy and environment, for it is gaining the attention of foreign investors and the awareness of environmental protection is being strengthened. what is more, olympic games give a unique opportunity to inspire and educate a new generation of chinese youth with the olympic values and the olympic spirit. now that we have seen so many advances, could you even imagine us losing the holding rights?

isquo;ve already said a lot about the olympics and china. but i think everyone should use some time to think of this question, does the olympic games have any special meaning to you?

for us, i mean the chinese youth, 20xx olympic games is a tremendous gift. because what we are waiting for is to do something significant as repaying the love given to us society is just like a ship, and in our dreams the captain is waving his hand and saying hey! come here and take the helm! how charming his voice is, but we have never heard of it in our true life. this morning, however, when we wake up, we will see the olympic games waving its hand. after chewing, most of us will have at least one plan about what to do for the olympic games. and mine is to be a comforter ----that is someone who will give comfort to others.

at the end of my speech, i hope all the preparation will go well, and everyone will show their ability to the world. let us seize opportunities and give a big smile to challenges.

breathing with dreams

i have a question for you. ‘do you know how to breathe?’ okay, i know what you are thinking now, “girl, are you kidding me? everybody knows how to breathe.” actually, if i were you sitting down in there one year ago, i would think, “how did she make it to the final?”

alright, seriously speaking, what i am talking about is “the art of breathing”, and it’s about breathing in a yoga way: peacefully and always under control. what it reveals is the real essence of perseverance, “in order to achieve, sometimes, you need to wait.” and when it comes to things you really want in life, it is as hard as it could possibly be.

for me, singing is a life thing. when i am singing on the stage, i feel whole-heartedly involved, and the self-fulfillment it renders is inexplicably thrilling. but with all the realistic problems i need to face in life, all those i want seem too far to be true– so far that i am terrified that i will never ever be able to get there and that gradually i will be carried away by the currents and torrents of life. i’ve been drowned into this ambivalence for so long. now, with a refined perspective towards self-realization, i am waiting, in a graceful posture, and knowing that i am going to get there. and on this, i should say, i owe yoga a thank-you.

i still remember, about one year ago, i attended a yoga course for the very first time. and to tell you the truth, i went there for a nice figure. however, after practicing for some time, i discovered that there was an ineffable inner-strength burgeoning sneakily in me while i totally focused. in order not to let go this significant power, i started to picture all i wanted in my mind while i was fully concentrating, for i believe the wings of imagination could make things possible. i learned to breathe with my dreams, shaping the eagerness into this elegant gesture of persisting.

and now, if you ask me what exactly is “the art of breathing”, i would say it is indeed “the art of living”. it combines the search of balance, the grace of patience, and the awareness of appreciation.

so even though feelings are tied up with life routines, i could still hold onto that free ego which i have always adored: the girl who is singing under the spotlight, with all her heart and soul; the girl who is persevering with all she believes in and always feels grateful for what has been bestowed on her.

that girl is now standing right here in front of you, hoping that you are all as lucky as she is, living with dreams and love. no matter how tough things get, i tell myself, i tell myself that, every single thing i am doing now is every step closer to that very moment of my trajectory, just like every yoga breath to every blossom moment of my life.

dear friends:

if you can dream it, you can do it.——walt disney

it was a long four years. even after i had actually graduated, the nightmares began to haunt me, the university would call to say i hadn’t truly graduated. there had been a mistake and there was just one more class i needed to take. i was always so relieved to wake up and realize that it had only been a bad dream. in reality, i had completed every course needed for my degree, and i was a full-fledged college graduate!

now, the rest of my life loomed ahead of me. sometimes a bachelor’s degree prepares you for a specific occupation——you train to be an accountant, you graduate and get a position in an accounting firm. often, however, your stint in college only prepares you to make further decisions regarding your future. you’re pretty sure what you don’t want to do!

during my senior year of college, i had toyed with the idea of changing my major. at that point, i had finally discovered what captured my heart. but, wanting to finally be finishing school was a stronger pull. so, i took a few courses in physiology and exercise science, but not enough to receive a degree in physical therapy. that would require advanced schooling, beyond my bachelor’s degree——and i just wasn’tready to tackle that. having completed my b.c. degree, i didn’t have any intentions of furthering my education.

so, i did the safe thing and got an office job——the very thing i was sure that i didn’t want to do! i detested the office policies, the suits i had to wear and the downtown environment that i had to drive to every day. i knew this was not where i belonged.

but god knew what path my career was to follow. a position opened up at the most exclusive health club in our city, so i applied. this was my kind of environment——an active, vibrant kind of place——completely at the opposite end of the spectrum from the office environment where i found myself. the position required that i work saturday nights and sunday mornings. perfect, i thought! i could keep my office job monday through friday and work at my dream job on the weekends. this arrangement lasted several months until, eventually, a full-time position opened up and i was able to resign from my office job.

over the next few years, i worked my way up the leader, gaining experience in several different departments. i found my niche as the director of member services——catering to our clientele and providing them with numerous cutting-edge programs. i would have stayed at that job forever——it seemed to be the pinnacle of all my dreams fulfilled. here were fellow employees who had a passion for the same things that i did——health and fitness. yet again, god had other plans for my in two years, a newer, bigger, better and more state-of-the-art health club facility was built——just five miles down the road. and, in turn, the owner lost many members to that club. and, in turn, the owner lost thousands of dollars. one by one we were each laid off.

after trying unsuccessfully to land another similar position elsewhere, i knew what i had to do. go back to school!thanks!
